NASCC prepares for CS-SC20
Navy installations within the continental United States (CONUS), including Naval Air Station Corpus Christi, will conduct Exercise Citadel Shield-Solid Curtain 2020 (CS-SC20) Feb. 3-14.
CS-SC20 is a two-part Anti-Terrorism Force Protection exercise designed to enhance the readiness of Navy security forces and ensure seamless interoperability with other services and agency partners. Exercise CS-SC20 is not in response to any specific threat, but is a regularly scheduled annual exercise.
“This annual anti-terrorism force protection exercise enhances the training and readiness of Navy security personnel and better prepares us for potential force protection situations,” said Lt j. g.. Mitchell Allen, NASCC security officer. “It also provides a learning environment for our personnel to exercise functional plans and operational capabilities.”
Measures will been taken to minimize disruptions to the local community and normal base operations, but there may be times when the exercise causes increased traffic around the base or delays in base access. Area residents may also see or hear security activities associated with the exercise. Advanced coordination has taken place with local law enforcement and first responders.
“As part of the exercise, we will be implementing various force protection measures,” said Angelo Andrea, NASCC antiterrorism officer, “While we intend to minimize its impact on the local infrastructure and services, there may be times when the exercise causes delays or limited, temporary road closures.”
“CS-SC 20 is important to our ability to execute the Navy’s mission in support of homeland defense and protect our people, equipment and facilities in situations that pose a significant and immediate threat to their safety,” added Allen.
