Flu shots are now available at NHC Corpus Christi for all TRICARE beneficiaries.

Military dependents, retirees and their covered family members can stop by the NHC Corpus Christi immunization clinic Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. to receive the vaccine.

Flu shots will be administered on a walk-in basis, no referral or prescription is necessary.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends annual influenza vaccination for everyone six months and older.

As previously announced, Flu shots for active duty personnel will be administered in the NHC Corpus Christi auditorium on Friday, Nov. 1, from 7 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m.

Information about flu shot availability will also be sent out through TRICARE Online Secure Messaging.

PAWS FOR PURPLE

Fleet and Family Support Center’s Third Annual Paws for Purple Pet Parade will be held on Nov. 9, from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. at the Sunfish Beach pavillion.

Bring your pet dressed in purple to show your support for Domestic Violence Awareness.

There will be a prize for best dressed pet, as well as snacks, games and giveaways for your pets.

CARDIO DANCE FITNESS CLASS

There is a free cardio dance group fitness class held at Fitness Express every Monday and Wednesday from 9 -10 a.m.

This cardio class uses music and easy to follow dance moves combining fast and slow rythems. All fitness levels are welcome.

TOYS FOR TOTS

Marines are collecting new unwrapped gifts and toys for their annual Toys for Tots Drive. They are collecting items through Dec. 1. Items collected will benefit the less fortunate in the local area. FAMILY FITNESS CLASS

MWR has a new Family Fitness class every Saturday at 10 a.m. at Fitness Express. This class for parents and children ages 7 and up. The Family Fitness class is free for authorized MWR patrons, and includes a full body workout with basic cardio drills, functional strength training, and flexibility work. MWR GUEST CARD PROGRAM

The MWR Guest Card is available to all eligible U.S. citizens who do not currently have base/MWR access.

Card program members will have permission to use the Gulf Winds Golf Course, NASCC marina, RV park and MWR food facilities. A criminal history background check is required.

FREE BOWLING

Lighthouse Lanes Bowling Center hosts free bowling for all active-duty service members in uniform every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Contact Lighthouse Lanes at 961-3805 for more information.

HOLIDAY CARD CONTEST

MWR would like to invite departments and commands aboard NASCC to enter the Annual Holiday Card Display Contest.

Decorate one 4-foot by 8-foot sheet of plywood. (You are welcome to add decorations outside of the card; however, only items on the plywood will be judged.) Use weather-friendly materials for card decorations. Cards will be displayed in the Wings Auditorium courtyard during the holiday season. Prizes will be awarded for the top three cards. Prize money will go into the winning command’s unit allocation fund.

N9 entities and private organizations are welcome to participate in the contest, but are not eligible to win prize money. Holiday card displays are due at the Community Recreation/Marina Office, no later than 10 a.m. on Dec. 9. Winners will be announced on Dec. 12, at the MWR Holiday Tree Lighting - Texas Snow Party.

If plywood is needed, please call 961-1293 by noon on Nov. 20. Plywood will be available for pick up at the Community Rec/Marina office beginning on Nov. 22.

EQUIPMENT ORIENTATION

Feel intimidated by all the equipment at the gym? Interested in feeling stronger but don’t know where to start? MWR has a class every Friday at 5 p.m. that can help. Learn the basics with a certified professional at this small group style informative class. Cost: Free; POC: 961-3164.

5K TURKEY TROT

MWR is holding a 5K Turkey Trot on Nov. 27 at 9 a.m. in the Protestant Chapel parking lot.

First 100 runners will recieve a free mini pie. A drawing will be held for four turkey trotters to receive a frozen turkey.

Pre-registration is available at Fitness Express before the day of the event.

MWR’s Festival of Crafts will be held at the Catalina Club, Nov. 16, from noon to 7 p.m.Vendors will be selling handmade items, holiday décor, gifts and more.
