‘Purple Up!’ for military kids
In April, the Child Development Center honors the sacrifices made by military and Department of Defense (DoD) families and the experience children of military and DoD members gain while serving at home and overseas.
The Child Development Center staff puts together a calendar full of activities for our children every year. This is an opportunity for us to recognize the military and DoD children who attend our center for their heroism, character, courage, and sacrifices.
We kick off the month with a parade around the Child Development Center along with a ribbon cutting ceremony that signifies the start of a month full of activities.
A few activities we have planned this year include “Breakfast on the Go!” for the parents, an ice cream social, Lemonade Day, Purple Up! Day, and then end it with a carnival for the parents and children on the last day.
On April 12 we ask everyone to wear something “purple” in support of Month of the Military Child (MOMC). Purple is the color that symbolizes all branches of the military, as it is a combination of Army green, Marine red, and Coast Guard, Air Force, and Navy blue.
The goal of “Purple Up!” is for military youth to actually see the support in their school, youth groups, and the community.
It is important for us all to remember that children serve too.
