Getting fit with .... Courtney Mason

Occupation: Student Naval Aviator Years Exercising: 15 years + Frequency (how many times a week): 6 days + Favorite exercise & favorite food: Glute-Ham Raise and Overhead Squats & Crab Cakes Favorite motivational saying: “Leave No Doubt” This was the motto of the of the 2016 Navy Women’s Soccer team at school, every time we stepped up we did not want to leave anything. What inspired you to start exercising? I started playing soccer at 4. I have not stopped since, and I do not want to. This just means I have to keep myself fit and healthy to step into a game at any opportunity. How has being consistent with your fitness benefited you? Keeping a healthy lifestyle with exercise helps keep me positive and less stressed. Also being a part of the gym on base and playing on teams expands my relationships with others. What do your family or friends think of your fitness habits? They are proud of me and like to stay up to date. My roommate and I keep each other informed of our workouts so we can keep up together. What are the challenges you have overcome to maintain your fitness? In ground school or when I’m busy with multiple flights; I have to plan to come in incredibly early and after a couple weeks, it wears on you. What advice would you give someone who is just starting their fitness journey? Start small and work out the basics. Find a team sport or activity with friends that can hold you accountable. Set intermediate goals that you can reach. Most of all make it fun.
