New construction, growth, continues

Adjacent to the Commissary and Navy Exchange, a new construction project is nearing completion. The Joint Car Care Center. It is slated to open in June, replacing the current Auto Skills Center and NEX Tire Shop. The new facility is going to have the same amount of bays and capabilities that the current shop has, but with the convenience of location and new equipment. It also helps to create a “town center” of sorts for the installation with a bank, grocery store, department store, bowling alley and three restaurants all within walking distance of one another. The contractor responsible for the construction of the new JCCC, WEBCO, also completed the new storage and maintenance facility for Gulf Winds Golf Course recently. “We had some delays getting the car center construction going and then Hurricane Harvey set us back a bit, but right now we are right on schedule to complete this facility on time,” said Mark Farris, site superintendent. The Auto Skills Center offers brake rotor resurfacing; battery charging; computer spin balance and tire repair; air conditioning service; computer diagnostics; and Texas state inspections. The new JCCC is set to offer the same services once open. The shop will have three drive-on lifts and two frame lifts. Patrons can sign out a tool box with metric and standard wrenches, sockets, screwdrivers, pliers and oil filter wrenches. Lift and bay rentals are $3 per hour. All rates and services are expected to stay the same at the JCCC. For more information on the Auto Skills Center, call 961-3470.
