USO, DeCA team up to assist U.S. Coast Guard families
The NAS Corpus Christi USO and DeCA Commissary have teamed up to help feed the U.S. Coast Guard families who were affected by the government shut down.
The joint effort provided an opportunity for community members to donate non-perishable food items in support of the USO here on NAS Corpus Christi.
“This is similar to the Feds Feed Families program that they do every summer,” NASCC Commissary Store Director Marlin Dotson said.
As of Jan. 31, customers had provided more than 322 bags of food and approximately 2600 pounds of overall donations to the USO.
“The Corpus Christi Commissary will continue the with the pre-made bags of groceries that customers can purchase at the commissary for $10,” Dotson said. “All donations can be placed in the large bin near the exit of the commissary.”
The USO office will deliver the food donations to Coast Guard families in the local area.
Through voluntary donation programs such as this, local families, USO and DeCA’s workforce continues to make a huge difference in the fight against hunger for our fellow service men and women.
