Grand re-opening visibly demonstrates efforts to improve customers’ experience
Military, family members and retirees attended the recent Navy Exchange Corpus Christi grand re-opening.
The ceremony marked the completion of their 18-month Main Store renovation project and highlights the changes completed in the first update of the store in nearly 20 years.
It also follows the opening of five Micro-Markets in CCAD in 2015, the renovation of the Gas Station Mini-Mart in 2016, and the opening of Panda Express in 2017. The Main Store renovation replaced all of the store’s fixtures, including Jewelry, Cosmetics and Handbags, and added a TV Wall. Product assortment adjustments include the relocating of Furniture and Major Appliances from the old warehouse location in Building 1218; the introduction of the Below Deck off-price merchandise program; and a complete resizing of all departments based upon sales history.
“Today, as we cut the ribbon on this facility, we are visibly demonstrating NEXCOM’s continuing efforts to improve the customer experience and quality of life of our military members, retirees and their families here in Corpus Christi,” said Christina Giordano, NEXCOM district director.
“The $2.85 million renovation of this store exemplifies our dedication and commitment to continually assess our operations and offerings, to modernize and upgrade our facilities to meet the needs of our customers and deliver the best customer experience to every guest, every time.”
Steve Evans, general manager, said that many of the upgrades during the renovation are obvious to the visitor. “New fixtures, assortment changes, the consolidation of furniture and major appliances into the main store.
“Another way the NEX is keeping pace is with our Below Deck Program … providing merchandise at 50 percent the original retail price.”
Other changes, he added, are less obvious including improved data systems to allow them to analyze and better identify how much space should be allocated to product lines to better match customer demand.
The Navy Exchange Mid-South District Facilities Team completed the renovation with the support of NASCC Public Works and numerous contractors. These teams cooperated to knock down concrete walls to convert back room areas to retailing selling space, update the fire suppression system and update the store administration space.
