Do you know? ….. Cassandra Miller
Tucked away between the E Street Gym and the Racquetball Courts is the Navy Exchange Uniform Shop.
Cassandra Miller is the shop’s supervisor. She had been working for the Navy Exchange for the past 34 years, 15 of which have been with the uniform shop. She is retiring the end of November, but last week was her last day in the Uniform Shop.
Miller has really enjoyed “supporting the Sailors,” she says.
“I love making sure they have their uniforms up to regulation and that they fit well,” Miller said. The shop offers dry cleaning, alterations, special items, uniform items, and more.
“We are ready to support with whatever inspection, event, or even rank advancements that may occur.”
Miller says that when they know there will be a change to the uniform regulations, they try to prepare two-to-three months in advance. For example, this past Spring, they were preparing for the Type III roll out that is underway now.
Miller says the favorite part of her job is helping the Chief Petty Officer Selectees get ready for their new uniforms, whether is blues, khakis, whites, or whatever else they may need.
She is a Corpus native and says it will be hard to retire because there is a great atmosphere in the shop. “The employees are like family, so I’ve been comfortable and didn’t want to leave,” she says
But on the flip side, she is looking forward to not working retail and missing family during holidays. She loves to play Bingo and watch the Hallmark Channel. She plans to travel, visit family, and spend a lot of time with her two young granddaughters.
Miller confesses she will miss everyone – the ladies she works with and all the customers. But her smile also tells you that she is looking forward to retirement.
