The following Sailors received Letters of Appreciation for their efforts during the replacement of the Sunfish Beach pier, which allowed the Navy Regatta to happen as planned. The modifications they made to the pier provided a safe transfer location for personnel and for civilian boats to moor without damage. MA2 James Short received his third Navy Achievement Award for his service as patrol supervisor, NASCC Security Department, from August 2016 to September 2019. Short supervised 12 security force personnel through 175 calls for service, performed 1,250 hours of antiterrorism and force protection operations, conducted 85 random vehicle inspections, and completed 19 criminal investigations. His willingness to accept additional responsibility led to his qualification as duty armorer where he flawlessly maintained 100 percent accountability of 6,050 rounds of ammunition, 119 firearms, and force protection equipment valued at $300,000, contributing to an outstanding 100 percent score in weapons during the recent region assessment (RASS).
Edward Henson received a Letter of Appreciation for his contributions at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi (NASCC) for the past 9 years. As the small arms repairer, he ensured the material readiness through minor maintenance and serviceability of 120 weapons and associated equipment. He also flawlessly maintained 100 percent accountability of 6,050 rounds of ammunition, non-lethal weapons, and force protection equipment valued at over $300,000 with zero discrepancies.
Over the course of your tenure with the Security Department, your ability to maintain your programs resulted in zero failures or critical discrepancies in four Explosive Safety Inspections (ESI) with the most recent score of 86 percent across all areas of grading for the Security Pillar. During the 2018 Command Assessment and Readiness for Training (CART) inspection, your diligent efforts resulted in a 100 percent score in 20 line items, contributing to the overall score of 84 percent. Furthermore, during the 2019 Regional Assessment (RASS), the inspection team called you out by name to the Commanding Officer for scoring 100 percent in 20 line items, ensuring the department achieved a “Ready” status for the Final Evaluation Problem (FEP) later in the year.
