Captain’s Column
Well, 2018 is just about in the books and it has been an incredible year! There have been numerous ups and downs, but overall I think we as a command and, with our tenants, as a base, have exceeded expectations and made great strides. I can’t thank everyone enough for their patience and understanding as we attempted, and continue to make repairs following Hurricane Harvey, and strive to keep NASCC a great place to work and live. I am very proud of our personnel and the commitment they make to support each other, our tenants and the Navy!
I believe overall that people love a bright, shiny, new object. For those of us in the military, that typically is a new aircraft, or ship. Very often that new object, with the new car smell, comes at the expense of the garage that is needed to take care and maintain it.
That is true with the military, with installations being the garages. While NASCC has seen funding for Hurricane Harvey repairs, that is just what they are…hurricane repairs.
Thankfully, I strongly believe that here at NASCC, in addition to hurricane repairs, folks are making incredible strides to keep the “garage” running well. It isn’t always ideal; it isn’t always permanent; but individuals are finding new ways to get the mission done. Sometimes, we have to make the hard call and shut something down, but what is crucial is that our folks are making the smart, safe, efficient decisions that enable our tenants to get their job done well.
Everyone’s positive contributions and continued efforts will be needed as we enter and work through 2019. The incredibly important missions of CCAD and Training Air Wing Four, and those who support them, will continue, if not increase. It will take a consolidated team effort to make our base as efficient as possible. We are all one team; everyone is important to our success of providing the best customer service possible to our tenants.
On the personal side of things, I challenge everyone to think of a few areas they want to improve. Normally I would suggest a fitness goal, educational type of goal and/or a family or friends related goal. Set bench marks through the year to assess your accomplishments and to some degree restate the goal in order to maintain focus and dedication to completion. Additionally, a great technique to keep you on track is to share the goal with a shipmate or family member, someone with a similar goal. This will provide you someone to push you on the tough days.
No matter what you strive for in 2018, I wish you the best of luck. I look forward to continue working with each and every one of you. Please continue to watch out for each other and keep each other safe.
Happy New Year! Go Navy!
