Summer is here

As I begin to write this article, it is almost officially summer.

Of course, here in South Texas, it has felt like summer for quite some time already.

Here, on NASCC, there is much transition happening all around us. Many service members and their families are moving to new locations. Some active-duty personnel are either separating from the military, entering the Reserves, or are retiring. Much change is in the air!

Summer has always been a time to slow down the pace a bit for me: to read that book I have had on my reading list since the beginning of the year; to visit a museum or see that movie I have not had the time for until now; to visit family and friends that may live at a distance away; to take a vacation together as a family.

In light of all these good things that we can do, let’s not take a “vacation” from God and our life of faith in him. With less hectic schedules than the rest of the year, we should do all we can to attend church together as a family on the Lord’s Day. This must be the highlight of our week! By doing so, we not only dispose ourselves to receive the many graces God has in store for us, but we also set a good example for our children, and those we live and serve with on a daily basis.

With so many great challenges facing us today: tensions within our families, communities, nation, and across the globe; economic uncertainty; environmental pollution; political divisions at every level of government; an increase in catastrophic weather events and natural disasters all over the world --- we must remain vigilant in our pursuit of holiness, in seeking the face of God at all times and seasons! This is not the time, nor the season, to take a “vacation” from God.

I pray for all those individuals and families “on the move” that God bless, keep, and provide for all your needs according to the riches of His glory!

Happy summer!
